Kid-Friendly BBQ Recipes

The summer season has unofficially begun – so let the family BBQs begin! Fire up the grill and whip up one of these simple, delicious recipes that will have your kids licking their fingers and asking for seconds.

Brown-Sugar BBQ Chicken

This BBQ chicken recipe has a perfect balance of sweet, smoky and spicy flavors that you can adjust to your liking. It’s simple to prepare and great for a crowd. Sauté garlic in butter in a saucepan, then mix in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and spices and bring to a boil. Cook chicken breasts on the grill, covered, flipping and basting occasionally with sauce. You’ll definitely want to serve this dish with extra dipping sauce.

Beef & Mushroom Burgers

Burgers are usually a hit with kids and grown-ups alike, but this new twist will help you offer a healthier version at your next cookout. By adding savory mushrooms to the ground beef, you’ll cut back on the amount of meat you use and sneak an extra dose of veggies into each patty without sacrificing any flavor. Bake cremini mushrooms with olive oil, salt and pepper, then grind them up in a food processor. Mix the mushroom mixture in a bowl with ground beef, onion, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, herbs and egg. Make into patties, grill to perfection and add your favorite toppings.

Pork Skewers With Peanut Sauce

If your kids can’t get enough of PB&J, these pork skewers with creamy peanut sauce will be a huge hit. Make the sauce by combining peanut butter, fresh basil, coconut milk, soy sauce and other seasonings in a blender. Set aside a bowl of sauce for dipping, and use the rest as a marinade for cubes of pork shoulder or loin. Thread the meat onto skewers and grill for 5 to 8 minutes, serving with dipping sauce and lime wedges.

Grilled Peaches With Ice Cream

While you’ve got the grill going, why not make dessert as well? This sweet treat takes advantage of seasonal fruit and can be prepared in just a few minutes. Cut peaches in half and remove their pits. Brush them with oil and grill until golden brown. Mix butter, cinnamon, sugar and salt and top each peach with a few spoonfuls of the mixture. Garnish with fresh mint.
