In Preparation for Fall Rain

“Tut-tut, it looks like rain,” said Christopher Robin. And he said it so matter-of-factly, no groan in his tone, almost annoyingly cheerful about the prospect of rain showers. Granted, it was part of an elaborate plan contrived by Pooh to deceive the honeybees into thinking he was a little black rain cloud. But we mothers often feel no such cheerfulness at the prospect of rain. It can be inconvenient! When we leave the grocery store and are pushing a cart and lugging a diaper bag and baby simultaneously, there’s no free hand to hold an umbrella. So it’s understandable that it can be a bother.

But the next time you get poured on unexpectedly, think of the little girl in this video, seeing rain for the very first time. Remember the wonder and delight. And then smile, and say to your little one, “Tut-tut, it looks like rain.”
